Suspect in Shooting Death of Teen After Astros Game Surrenders

Houston police tracked the Buick LaCrosse from its sale to its fiery destruction, leading to the identification and arrest in the road rage death of a teen Astros fan.

Gerald Williams was taken into custody Monday after surrendering downtown at the Houston Police Department headquarters. Williams was charged last week in the death of 17-year-old David Castro, with court records outlining the lengths detectives went to identify a suspect in the killing of the teen after leaving a July 6 baseball game with his father.

During a news conference, the teen’s father, Paul Castro, thanked authorities for arresting the assailant and help from more than 100 tips that citizens called in. “I understand that there were a great number of tips that came in because you all were touched by this story and could see your own children in my son,” Castro said. “I think today just proves that love is greater than anger and hate.”

The teen’s death comes as Houston law enforcement grapple with an uptick of violent crime, including homicides and road rage disputes. Police have responded to 263 homicides this year, a 32 percent increase from last year. Read more about this investigation and arrest in this Houston Chronicle news article
