Scholarship Mission
This scholarship challenges law students to explore practical applications of artificial intelligence and blockchain technology in estate planning. We seek innovative solutions that can help families efficiently transfer assets while minimizing probate disputes and litigation.
Scholarship Prompt
Explain novel but practical ways that either AI and/or blockchain technology can be adapted or used to help those with assets efficiently and effectively pass assets to their beneficiaries or heirs without triggering probate disputes or probate litigation.
Your response should demonstrate both legal understanding and technological insight. Consider addressing:
- How these technologies could streamline estate administration
- Methods to reduce family conflicts during asset distribution
- Ways to improve transparency and documentation in estate planning
- Practical implementation challenges and solutions
- Potential regulatory considerations in Texas

Eligibility Requirements
Academic Standing
Must be a current 2L or 3L student enrolled in an accredited law school located in Texas
GPA Requirement
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in law school coursework
Citizenship
Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, regardless of race, color, gender, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or disability
Submission Format
Written essay of 1,500-2,500 words responding to the scholarship prompt
Required Application Materials
All applicants must submit the following materials through our online application form:
- Completed Application Form: Including personal information and law school details
- Written Essay: 1,500-2,500 words addressing the scholarship prompt
- Current Resume: Highlighting academic achievements, work experience, and relevant activities
- Law School Transcript: Official or unofficial transcript with confidential information redacted as needed
- Optional: Up to two letters of recommendation from law school professors, legal professionals, or employers discussing academic potential and professional promise
Evaluation Process
KREIG LLC partners will review all submissions with a panel of legal and technology professionals. Selection will be based on:
- Innovation and practicality of proposed solutions (40%)
- Understanding of legal principles in estate planning and probate (30%)
- Quality of writing and presentation (20%)
- Academic achievement and professional potential (10%)
The decision of the judging panel is final. Winners will be notified by telephone and email.

Award Distribution
Each $2,500 scholarship will be awarded as a single payment made jointly to the winning student and their law school. Funds are intended to support tuition, books, and educational expenses.
